Maria Alice Volpe (BR)

Chair of Musicology, Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, since 2002. Ph.D. in Musicology/Ethnomusicology from The University of Texas at Austin (2001). Master’s degree in Musicology from the Universidade Estadual Paulista (1994). Research interests include Brazilian music of the 18th-, 19th, and 20th-centuries; theoretical issues in musicology; and Brazilian music historiography. Coordinator of the Brazilian Music Bibliography Project–Brazilian Academy of Music. Contributor to national and international publications: EDUSP, UMI-Research Press, Turnhout, Ashgate, Latin American Music ReviewDie Musik in Geschichte und GegenwartEnciclopédia da Música BrasileiraOxford Dictionary of Caribbean and Afro-Latin American Biography, Brasiliana: Revista da Academia Brasileira de Música, among others. Invited speaker at national and international conferences: ANPPOM, Fundação Casa de Rui Barbosa; Universidade de São Paulo; Universidade Nova de Lisboa; Universidade de Coimbra; and King’s College, London. Awards: grants from Brazilian government foundations (CNPq, FAPESP, CAPES e FAPERJ). Editor-in-Chief, Revista Brasileira de Música; Editor of Glosas-Brasil; and Program Committee Chair of UFRJ International Symposium of Musicology. Elected member of the Brazilian Academy of Music (Chair nº 2).
